Our urine is slightly acidic. It has a pH of around 6 on an average. But, some conditions can make our urine become alkaline. If the urine is alkaline, we can see some amorphous phosphate sediments in it. They appear like granular or grainy white flecks in urine.

Alkaline urine can be caused by many different causes. Some of the most common causes of an alkaline urine include urinary tract infections, kidney disorders, and excessive vomiting. It can also be caused by some other serious conditions like respiratory alkalosis, pyloric stenosis, etc.

Sometimes alkaline pH of the urine can be caused by taking some foods like fruits and vegetables which affect the pH levels of the urine. Some drugs like carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, for example, Acetazolamide, Dorzolamide are also implicated in causing white stuff in urine. These drugs are used in the treatment of disorders like glaucoma, epilepsy and they are also used as diuretics.

2. Urinary tract infection:

Our normal urine color is transparent or clear to pale yellow in color. If there is any change in the urine color like becoming red, dark yellow, turbid or having white stuff in urine, it mostly signifies some underlying medical condition.

White tissue in urine can be caused by urinary tract infection or UTI also. It is generally caused by gram-negative bacteria like E. coli or Escherichia coli. These bacteria cause inflammation or swelling of the urinary bladder called cystitis. They can also cause swelling of the urethra called urethritis.

UTI produces many other symptoms apart from the presence of white tissue in urine. UTI produces symptoms like increased frequency of urination, dysuria or painful urination, urge to pass urine quickly or urgency, passing small quantities of urine many times and burning sensation.

Candida albicans is a type of fungus. It can grow excessively in the female genitalia leading to a condition called female genital candidiasis. In this condition, there is excessive discharge from the female genital opening which appears like cottage cheese or like a curdy discharge.

This discharge can come out while passing urine leading to the appearance of white tissue in urine of a woman. In addition to the white stuff in urine, genital candidiasis causes many other symptoms like burning while urinating, pain in the genital opening, dyspareunia or pain while having intercourse, severe itching or pruritus in the genitalia and the red appearance of the female genital walls on examination.

5. Bacterial vaginosis:

Bacterial vaginosis is a condition that is caused by a protozoan parasite called Gardnerella vaginalis. In this condition, also there is inflammation of the female genitalia or vaginitis. So, bacterial vaginosis leads to the production of white or gray bubbly or frothy genital discharge.

This discharge can come out while passing urine, giving the appearance of white tissue in urine. In addition to the above symptoms, bacterial vaginosis also causes other symptoms like foul smelling or malodorous discharge, dysuria or painful urination, etc.

6. Parasitic infections:

Sometimes if you have any parasitic infections in your body, these worms can pass out like white chunks in urine. Some examples of such parasites that pass out in urine are Schistosoma and filaria. Also, some protozoan parasites like Trichomonas can produce threads of mucus, which pass out like white flecks in urine. 8. Sexually transmitted infection:

Sometimes you may contract a sexually transmitted infection from your sexual partner. This may lead to the swelling or the inflammation of the urethra. The most common microbes transmitted sexually and causing urethritis are chlamydia and gonorrhoea.

There are many causes of white tissue in urine in pregnancy. Even pregnant women can develop infections of the urethra or female genitalia, leading to white flecks in urine. Apart from that, there is also an increased amount of discharge from female genitalia during pregnancy.

This increased discharge is called leucorrhea. It is white in color. So, this gives the appearance of white particles in urine. Also, during last trimester when the labor is approaching, the water can break out or the amniotic sac can get ruptured.

During this time, the mucus plug that is covering the female genital opening like a protection to the baby will get dislodged due to the relaxation of the cervix in the preparation of labor.
